Snow Country For Old Men Trailer

Hello and welcome to Snow Country For Old Men*, a podcast all about in Japan’s legendary ‘yukiguni’. Episode 00 of the podcast is a brief trailer to introduce myself as host, what the podcast is all about, who it’s intended for and where to find it.

Known as ‘yukiguni’ in Japanese, snow country refers to the prefectures and areas renowned for their heavy snowfall of winter – best-known to international visitors for the many outstanding ski resorts on offer. While we’ll definitely be talking skiing and snowboarding on this podcast, Snow Country For Old Men is a platform to talk about all aspects of life here. We’ll talk about life in the snow, mountains and villages, ski resorts and national parks, buying old houses, fixing old houses, festivals and traditions, travel, food, breweries and distilleries and so much more.

It’s a podcast for anyone old enough to think that escaping modern life to life or travel in Japan’s legendary yukiguni is a good idea. Or perhaps you just need some audio escapism. If that’s you, then I hope you get something from it. You’ll hear stories from diverse voices including young and old, women and men, Japanese and foreigners carving out lives in the snow country.

The first episode will be available for download on Friday 31st March and to celebrate the launch of the podcast, multiple episodes will be available over that weekend before moving to the regular bi-weekly schedule.  Thanks for your interest and make sure to subscribe to the podcast and follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. *

*please note, at the time of upload of this episode, the name of the podcast was 'Snow Country For Old Men'. It has since changed to 'Snow Country Stories Japan'. For more information about that change, listen to the special announcement uploaded on April 24th 2023.
